My Playlist is My Therapist

Lyric analysis music therapy group

A monthly music therapy group for people who love music, loved high school English class, and would like a different approach to talking about mental health and connecting with others. Meets virtually on the first Thursday evening of the month.

  • Music therapy is a modality facilitated by a specially trained music therapist in which music is used to address non-musical goals. In this group specifically, we will be using music to assist in emotional expression and building social connection.

  • Lyric analysis is an intervention used in music therapy that might remind you of a mix between a good friend saying “hey, check out this song!” and high school English class. In lyric analysis we will focus on a specific song and interpret what the artist is saying and how it applies to different aspects of our lives. This is also an ideal intervention for the virtual setting.

  • This group is open to adults in North Carolina and will meet virtually the 2nd Thursday evening of each month from 7:30-8:30. The cost of the group is $150 for 3 consecutive sessions.

Each session will focus on one song and a specific theme. At the end of the session, the group will compile options for song selection for the following month.

This group will run with a minimum of 3 participants and is capped at 8 participants.

  • This group blends being an open group (anyone can join each month) with consistency to get to know the other group participants. When you sign up, you are committing to 3 consecutive monthly sessions. Please check your schedule, and let Sarah know about special circumstances (planned absences, etc). Group attendance is not only valuable to your process – your fellow group members are relying on you for the full group experience as well!

  • Please email Sarah Szymanowski at sarah@fermata-counseling.com with your interest and any question you may have. We will set up a time for a free 15 minute phone call to make sure this group is the best fit for you.
